Our Capital Markets Activities

As part of our strategic growth initiative to enter into attractive new business areas, we have developed a capital markets business in the United States*, Europe** and Asia** that is primarily focused on our portfolio companies and public vehicles. KKR Capital Markets (KCM), which is a dedicated resource within KKR, was established to house our capital markets activities and capitalize on our natural sourcing opportunities. KCM is licensed to operate as a broker-dealer in both the United States and the European Economic Area. KCM also has a more limited license in Japan to allow us to raise capital for our funds. KCM's primary activities, which supplement our existing capital raising capabilities and the underwriting and advisory services that our funds and portfolio companies currently receive from large investment banks, include:

  • Raising additional capital for our funds
  • Providing capital markets advice
  • Structuring new investment products
  • Placing, arranging, or underwriting equity and debt transactions

KCM has hired a number of experienced professionals with long-standing investor relationships and industry experience to help us build our capital markets business. We believe that KCM provides us with multiple benefits that include facilitating the sourcing of capital from non-traditional sources, increasing the amount of capital we can commit to individual transactions, and enabling our portfolio companies to access the capital markets in a more efficient manner. This facilitates growth in our assets under management and allows us to take greater control over both the capital formation process and the manner in which we exit investments.

Some of the transactions in which KCM has participated include:

  • SunGard - Underwriter for $500 million senior secured term loan and $500 million senior notes offering
  • Oncor - Underwriter for $1.5 billion senior secured notes offering (Investment Grade issuer)
  • Northgate Information Solutions - Placement agent for mezzanine financing
  • Rockwood Holdings - Underwriter for $350 million follow-on equity offering
